At Barcombe CE Primary School, we are passionate about inclusion. We are committed to ensuring that every child is included, supported and able to thrive in all aspects of school life. We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive learning environment where every child is valued, their individual needs are understood and they are supported to reach their full potential.
Supporting Every Child
Class teachers are responsible for the learning, progress and wellbeing of all children in their class. High-quality teaching and adaptive teaching are embedded across our classrooms, ensuring that lessons, resources and approaches are responsive to different learning needs.
We support children through personalised planning, appropriate resources and carefully considered scaffolds, while maintaining high expectations for every child. We provide the right level of support, resources and adaptations to meet individual needs, enabling every child to access their learning, make progress and achieve their full potential.
Our SENDCo, Mrs Keeley, works closely with our dedicated staff team, families and external professionals to identify needs early and provide the right support at the right time. Through a graduated approach, personalised plans and regular reviews, we carefully monitor and adapt provision to meet individual needs.
Our Sensory Room
We are delighted to have a new sensory room, which is available to all pupils throughout the school day. It provides a calm and supportive space where children can regulate their emotions, manage sensory needs and refocus.
Using the sensory room can help to reduce anxiety, support concentration and attention, and enable children to return to their learning feeling calm, settled and ready to engage.

Guidance to accompany the East Sussex County Council (ESCC) Special Educational Needs Matrix. Mainstream schools Matrix The ESCC SEN Matrix is an East Sussex County Council framework drawn up by the Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (ISEND) Services in collaboration with staff working in educational settings across the County, Children’s Integrated Therapy Services (CITS) and parents and carers. It is designed to:
• Provide a shared understanding for schools, the Local Authority, parents/carers, and services such as Health and Social Care, about how to identify the Special Educational Needs of children and young people
• Provide guidance on provision and resources recommended to meet these needs, and to facilitate educational progression
• Support development of knowledge and understanding about SEND
• Contribute to the development of good SEN and inclusive practice (‘build capacity’)
• Provide a framework from which the Local Authority and its moderation partners will make consistent decisions about funding levels for children to facilitate their educational progression.
