As a Church of England primary school, the vision and values of our school are rooted in the teachings and ethos of the Christian faith. Through gifting the children of our school the opportunity to know Jesus and learn from him and with him, our rich provision is underpinned and strengthened by our Christian character.
Our Vision
A small and mighty school where everyone flourishes in the heart of the community.
At Barcombe CE Primary School, our vision drives the work we do to ensure that all members of our school community flourish academically, personally and spiritually. This vision is championed in lessons across the curriculum where children and teachers set high standards and endeavour to achieve them; where the individual needs of each child are planned for and barriers to learning are removed; and where classrooms are collaborative and cooperative learning communities that encourage us all to be the best we can be and bring out the best in others. As a school that adopts a therapeutic approach to supporting the holistic needs of children, we enable both children and staff to flourish in calm, purposeful and nurturing learning environments. We are proud of our proven track record of excellence with the high levels of attainment and progress of children achieved during their time at our school and value the role of the village around the child that fosters this. Being active and engaged members of the community ensures that children at Barcombe are outward-looking and develops their role as global citizens and responsible neighbours. We are thoughtful about the ways in which the school can give back to the community and ways in which the community can enhance the experiences and opportunities at school.
Our vision is inspired by the parable of the mustard seed, taken from the Gospel of Matthew.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”
Matthew 13:31-32
In this parable, Jesus reminds us that although things might look very small at the beginning, they can become something much bigger and end up making a huge difference. Just like that tiny seed, we too can make a HUGE difference not only to the world around us, but to the lives of others. Jesus teaches us that everything we do to help others is important and that as we flourish, we have the power and responsibility to help others flourish as well. At Barcombe CE Primary school, although we may be a small village school, we know and understand that we are powerful and mighty, and all have a part to play in our own growth but also the growth of those in our community and around the world.
